1 Corinthians: God’s Grace to a Messed-Up Church
What’s that old saying? “If you can find a perfect church, don’t join it. You’ll mess it up!” We smile, because even if we don’t like to admit it, we know it’s true. Every church is messed up to some degree due to the simple reality that the church is made up of people – even saved people like you and me– who are still this side of heaven. Yet, some churches are really messed up. They are noticeably marked by sin that is not being dealt with, members not getting along with one another, and a selfish lack of love for one another. So, what’s the solution?
In the book of 1 Corinthians, the Apostle Paul seeks to apply God’s truth to a messed-up church so that they can more clearly reflect God’s glorious character in how they live together in unity, love, and holiness. Lots to learn from this letter to a church that was in a culture so much like ours in 21st century America!
