Grace: Beginning to End

Philippians 4:21-23

Can you think of any famous sign-off lines in the last century? Some simple, legendary ones include Paul Harvey, the radio broadcaster who told “the rest of the story” and ended with “Good day!” Dick Clark always said “For now, Dick Clark, so long.” News anchor Walter Kronkite noted, “And that’s the way it is.” Some sign-offs were funny or odd, like Bob Barker from the Price is Right, who ended his show by saying, “Bob Barker, reminding you to help control the pet population. Have your pet spayed or neutered.”

Paul’s sign-off line for this letter of Philippians is very similar to his sign-off for nearly every other letter he wrote…“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit” (vs. 23, ESV). We are tempted to read over that line quickly without thinking much about it, but the grace of Jesus Christ is never ordinary or to be ignored. Join Pastor Marc Goodwin at the end of Philippians 4 as Paul concludes his letter to the Philippians by reminding them, and us, of God’s amazing grace.

*Note: At the beginning of his sermon, Pastor Marc gives a word about the recent SCOTUS decision to legalize gay marriage in all 50 states. He references a declaration called Here We Stand by the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, which can be found here.
