What are we to make of the surprising – and, yes, somewhat disappointing story in Acts 15:36-16:5 of Paul and Barnabas dividing when they couldn’t agree on who should make up their missions team? And, what protects our hearts from cynicism when we witness church leaders clashing?
Join Pastor Larry McCall as we see what the Holy Spirit can do with His unstoppable mission, even when respected, godly leaders end up dividing over “philosophy of ministry” decisions. Amazingly, when the sovereign Spirit is in charge, He can turn division into multiplication!
1) Can you think of a past story of going through a situation in which church leaders clashed, going separate ways? What made that situation hard for you? For that church?
2) How can we “wage peace” in our church? What does it take to “make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit” (Eph. 4:3, NIV)?
3) If we have made great effort to maintain unity, yet there is still a parting of ways over some difference in “philosophy of ministry” (we’re not talking about a sin issue or some issue of doctrinal integrity here), what can protect our hearts against cynicism?
