Jesus said that “it is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). The last few weeks we’ve taken time as a church to discuss that especially blessed activity of giving – remembering God’s generosity toward us in Christ and how we are called to be generous ourselves. But the fact that Jesus said giving is more blessed than receiving doesn’t necessarily mean that receiving gifts is a bad thing. No, quite the opposite! It is a blessing to be the recipient of gifts! As Christmas approaches this year, most of us are going to be on the receiving end of others’ generosity. So this Sunday, we’ll be looking at Philippians 4:10-20, a passage that helps us think about how to be godly receivers of gifts. After all, every dimension of life should be affected by our love for Christ, even the way that we unwrap gifts!
