Each year, the Advent season provides families with a unique opportunity to focus on the incarnation of Christ, and dwell upon its significance together!

Listed below are several ideas of ways you could engage with your children or grandchildren during the weeks leading up to Christmas. Some are more directly instructional, while others are about enjoying recreational time as a family.

USE PRINT/DEVOTIONAL RESOURCES

Over the last few years, we’ve given out various Christmas-related devotional resources. If you’ve received those, don’t forget that you have them! And consider using them again this year:

  • “He is Coming” Advent blocks

  • Christmas “Seek and Find

  • The Kaleidoscope book of the gospel of Luke

  • For those with older children, consider having them read the Recommended Readings related to our Advent preaching series, which can be found by clicking here: 2023 Recommended Readings

  • Have your children/grandchildren create unique Nativity sets, by using materials that are outside the box (e.g. Play-Doh, Legos, etc.). Read the Nativity story from Luke 2 with them.

MUSIC

Music can prove to be a wonderful discipleship tool.

  • You could attend the “Prepare Him Room” Christmas Concert with Sovereign Grace Music that is being hosted at the church the evening of December 7. You can purchase tickets here: Concert

  • We’ve compiled a Spotify playlist of songs we’d recommend for you to listen to, or sing along with together: 2023 Advent Playlist

MISSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Consider ways that you could capitalize on the Christmas season to be proactive about reaching out to your neighbors to demonstrate, and share, the love of God in Christ.

  • Make a batch of Christmas cookies for each of your neighbors together as a family, and hand deliver them to them, along with a handwritten invitation to church on Christmas Eve morning.

  • Schedule an evening where you invite your neighbors over for hot chocolate and Christmas treats. Consider ways you could be hospitable (activities for kids, e.g.) and intentional about engaging them with the gospel (e.g. read a Christmas book, singing a few carols together, etc.).

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

  • Go ice skating together at Miller Sunset Pavilion

  • There are various Christmas light displays around town, which you could drive by, or even walk through:

OTHER IDEAS

  • Create a custom nativity set (using legos, pipe cleaners, play-doh, etc.).

  • Consider going to the Bremen Holy Walk (December 1-2)
